What do I wear/bring to my boudoir photo session?

When I meet or chat over the phone with a client during their pre-shoot consult, I often get asked, “Ashley, what do I wear/bring for my boudoir shoot?” My first response is, whatever you feel amazing in! The most important thing when picking your outfits is to choose items that make you feel sexy and fabulous. If the outfit doesn’t do that, try on something else.

Aside from feeling really great in the outfit or outfits you choose, here are some tips and things to think about when putting together your wardrobe.

  1. Variety! They say variety is the spice of life, so why not add some spice to your outfits? For example if your session includes 3 outfits, choose 3 very different looks. Such as a bra and pantie set, a sexy baby doll and corset/garter set. By having more than one style of lingerie or clothing it will give you more variety to choose from in your final images. Also, think outside the box. Items like a leather jacket, your favourite pair of jeans, a fabulous dress, or even a slouchy sweater can be very sexy too! ………………………………………………………………………..

  2. Colour! When choosing your outfits, select some pieces with colour. If you have a super sexy black outfit, bring a second that is more colourful. Pick a more vivid colour like red, hot pink or a bright turquoise. Choose a colour that accentuates your hair, skin or eyes. ………………………………………………………………………..

  3. Accessories! Do you have a fabulous necklace or ring, but you never seem to have an occasion to wear it? Bring them to your session. A couple of beautiful pieces of jewelry really show off your personality. You don’t need to wear a lot of jewellery if that’s not you, but having a couple pieces really does add some sparkle to the shots. Also think about whether you want to wear stockings, a hat, hair clip or gloves. If you are unsure, bring it to your session, we can decide together! ………………………………………………………………………..

  4. Shoes! Shoes are a must! Even if you want to go bare foot for an outfit, bring some heels for the others. Stilettos or high heels lengthen your legs and add some sass to your outfits. Chunky shoes and wedges tend not to look as nice in boudoir shots, as they look “heavy” so it’s best to bring stilettos or pumps. We even have some at the studio you are welcome to borrow if you don’t have any in your collection. .

  5. Props! Last but not least, props are a great way to tell your story. What are your hobby’s, what brings you joy? Because we have a large studio, the sky is the limit. Ladies have brought out motorcycles, surf boards, skiis, snowmobiles, trucks and more. The props don’t need to be huge to add personality. You could also bring a fabulous hat, your man’s dress shirt or tie, a jersey, your favourite book, sports equipment or even your wedding dress/veil.

So ladies, no matter what you choose to bring, make sure it’s “you”, that it fits really well and above all, makes you feel fabulous. Always, always try on your outfits before your session to make sure everything fits, the tags are removed and your stockings don’t have any holes! Don’t forget to pack your accessories and shoes. And lastly, remember to have fun!
